Default Tutorial: Editing video with Canopus Edius

    Hello all,

Many new people have said that they would post their videos if they had the right program and knew how to edit them. I thought I would post a quick tutorial on editing video with Canopus Edius. You can probably find a copy of it at your favorite torrent site.

    Open Edius
    Create a profile
Create a generic OHCI SD project (or HD if your input is better than 720x480)
Right click and Create a New Sequence
Double click to load the sequence in the track
Right click and Add File (you can add multiple if you want)
Drag the video you want to edit to the sequence track
Either play the clip or fast forward past the time you want to cut out
Click the split button (or use hotkey C)
Make sure the unwanted portion is highlighted
Click the Ripple delete button (or Delete)
Go to the beginning (or use hotkey A) to return to the start of the clip
    Let the clip play through
    Press Split again to cut
Highlight the end/unwanted portion and delete
Next select the export button and do Print to File
I choose Windows Media Video export 720x480, 100 quality
Give it a name, and you are ready to upload.
I suggest keeping the edited below 2 minutes to prevent them from being larger than 100mb, but you can play with it as you see fit. There is also a nice batch mode that will allow you to queue up multiple exports from the same sequence.
Hope this helped, I am looking forward to seeing everyone's videos. No more excuses. ;-) If you have any questions, feel free to msg me.

    Ix

Great thanks for the tutorial. I have been looking for new software to try. Now, how do you blur faces?

Not usually an issue in the vids I normally shoot. ;-) I honestly have no idea, but it is a powerful program, os I am sure there is a way.

First of all thanks for the tutorial, Ixalon!

    @SG
I tried to figure out how to blur faces too. It is possible with Canopus Edius but I couldn't find a good tutorial for how to do it. However I found two tutorials for two other programs.
The first one is for Pinnacle Studio Plus:
    http://www.jakeludington.com/pinnacl...n_a_movie.html

The second one is for Sony Vegas:

It sounds pretty easy but it is very time consuming. You have to go through each frame of the video and adjust the filter if the person is moving around.

I hope that helps. I'm planing to get both programs and see for myself how they work. If you have any questions, maybe I can help you later when I worked with the software. But I think the tutorials are very clear.

Thank you for making that tutorial! If I ever decide to switch to videos instead of pictures, I will remember that thread.
