Why do my pictures upload darker??

Why are my photos uploading a lot "darker" onto my computer then what they appear on my camera? This has kept me from posting many pictures and especially videos onto this website b/c there too dark. If anybody knows the problem and can tell me how to fix it, plz do.. thanx!

That could be because the settings for your PC monitor are darker than that of the camera. What imaging software are you using? There may be also an auto brightness/contrast setting that is altering the pics, but they should still be usable if that was the case.

Are they really dark when you compare them to the pics you view on this board? If not, upload them anyway.

I have uploaded THOUSANDS of photos to this site.. and I don't see any difference.

can't say that i've noticed anything with the brightness, although i agree with bucks, upload em, let us be the judge as to if they're too dark!

To the OP, I don't think it is a problem unless they are so dark you can not make out the pics. Most cameras have the brightness on their LCD screen turned up high so you can view the screens from better angles, like when you have to hold the camera above your head to shoot over a crowd.

The information that your camera has recorded is totally unchanged when you transfer to your computer, but the way the display handles that information can differ enormously depending on the settings you use.

I'm pretty certain that it's your monitor's contrast/gamma calibration. My desktop at work displayed the same pages that I view on my laptop totally differently until I tinkered with the display options in a side-by-side comparison.

when I chnged to my first lcd flat screen I had a hard time getting used to it. It is much brighter and to me duller than my old monitor ... no matter what the settings. No I would not change back for anything ... maybe upgrade to a larger one though.

I agree with others upload here the supposed dark pics and lets see if they are truly dark... could be something wrong with camera instead.
