Photo Quality Enhancing

Here are some pics that I would like to post, but the quality on the first two of them isn't that good. All I've done is crop all of them - I haven't altered anything else (e.g. brightness, contrast, etc.) Can anyone please suggest some methods that might improve these pics before I post them elsewhere on the board?

yeah..... get a better camera.

But seriously now, there's not a whole lot you can do to compensate for lack of detail in a shot - the pixels the camera records is basically all you have to work with, I'm afraid.

Thanks very much for your advice Utter - looks like I'll have to drop some hints for my next birthday present, without revealing the ultimate purpose!
