How to Change MOD Files?

Hi Guys.

I have great stuff from the beach. However i filmed it with my camcorder. The outcome are .mod files, very big and not to upload.

Questions:

How can I convert it to AVI or MPG so that I decrease the size, make it working with the VLC Player?

How can I cut the MOD files? They are often longer than 30 minutes and I would like to make a best of??

someone asked me this recently, i believe you can just change(rename) the file name from 'video.mod' to 'video.mpg or .wmv' and then once you have done that you can import to premiere/ulead/movie maker and edit/compress the videos to your such desire.

copy a single file and give it a go, try not to muck around with the originals until you have tested it first.

If you can't see the .mod to rename it

# Double click on My Computer, on your desktop.
# Select Tools from the top menu.
# Select Folder Options.
# Click on the View tab.
# Scroll down until you see "Hide extensions for known file types". Uncheck the box next to this option.

Yeah you could, but wouldn't you be doubledipping if you could just rename them? /waste of time. (that's only if you can)

Else you would have to convert/edit/compress

Step 1. Google "mod convertor"
Step 2. find mod conversion software that suits your needs
Step 3. Either purchase software, or download a torrent for the software, depending on your budget/moral flexibility
Step 4. convert your mod
Step 5. post video here.

The most popular program seems to only be about 30 bucks.
