All I can add to this sticky is PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. After taking over 2000 candids now .... I can't really do a good hip shot ... but I have learned how to basically aim my camera with my hands ... while leaning against a railing ... or wall without even looking at what i am shooting. Using the zoom makes this a bit more difficult because you do not get as wide a frame for capturing the actual subject. No zoom is like using a shotgun you get a wide shot pattern. Zooming is like being a sharpshooter smaller pattern .... and requires more skill ... but better detail. Optical only zoom that is.

I'd like to add here. I for one have been taking candids since about 1981 back before digital was around i think. We would use still cams and movie cams. All film cams. Had to take em to a local dood we knew to get em developed. We shot from the Hip,the waist,sitting,standing,from the car every way you could imagine even at the eye at times. We were 21 and dumb but hav'n fun. We saw a hot chick in candy striped short shorts at the rexall over in morrow bay once so me and my buddy waited in the parkinglot for her to come out. (We had a Super 8mm movie cam back then) When she came out ol Casey was already on the trigger. Now i think the chick must have seen us and wanted to tease. She had a small bag in her hand and when she opened her car door she bent over and leaned way in exposing her both ass cheeks to the cam. Candy Stripe Eat'n Ass Shot. Then without haste stood and got into the car. There is ol Casey on passenger side of my little Fiat X19
gettin the best Ass Show of our young lives 3' from this chick. She left without so much as a look our way. This was our first adventure for this kind of stuff so we were dumb...we took our film to Longs Drug Store to be developed. Big mistake in thoughs days. We got the reel back in i think it was about 6 day's later and to our surprise the best 8 seconds of the movie were edited out. What a shame that was and we were piss'd! Lator on we hook'd up with a local dood that his dad owned a studio and never had a problem after that. I will never forget the fun we had. We didn't worry about getting busted we just shot. Hell we met girls by using the camera. Later in the 90's (bout 93) I went solo with digitals and have been doing it ever since. My only regret has been some of my best subjects were shot using cheap low mp cams. I've had every cheap didital cam you can imagine. Now i have the fuji s3100 finepix cam. It is a good cam for the money but it is kinda bulky to conceal. Now i just point and shoot at eye leval...fuck it! Not Always though somtimes i do use thoughs old school ways. It's funny cause somtimes i post stuff here and someone will say in comment.."good job! keep it up" and i think "Hell! I've been do'n this shit for over 25 yrs" Some of the stuff i have posted is 6-10 years old. I feel like the pioneer of the candid world. ......And thats my input

Oh and P.S the lady i am with now knows what i do and is cool with it!

As DaveK said, last weekend I saw a guy with his girlfriend taking uppies in the dancing club, even using flash, you know? And the girlfriend were laughing out loud and helping him in a way...

Can anybody see the difference taking candids beeing sneaky or being just open and having fun without hiding your hobby?

Because for me, this guy actually looked like he was taking uppies more for fun rather than for perv conditions.

Thanks for the tips, I see at least 4-5 thongs per day at university and i'm trying to get them with hipshots but it's very hard to not get caught. What cheap, very portable camera do you guys recommend for hipshots

I have a question that I want to ask, after seeing the images as attached in this thread. The first pic, which shows you walk towards the glass, i like the way you are holding, which conceals the lens pretty well. But I am wondering how are you going to activate the shutter button? Won't the thumb be in an awkward position? I'm a right hander btw.

Hope to hear some tips. I'm looking at a non-retractable camera next.

well miniskirts, i think it all depends on WHERE the shutter button is. if thumb is akward then the shot may come out bad because you may move because of pain or discomfort.

i would suggest to get another position or use other hand to get accustomed to it. not very helpful but a suggestion to consider.

the screen behind the camera

I have a sony T10
it has a wide LCD screen behind it.
It's a very small, compact machine with 7.2 MegaPixel very tiny lense
HOWEVER the LCD is about 3 inch and very bright

how can I hide it when I try to get a hip shot? somebody could see behind me easily.
