Ok folks, here's the deal.

I didn't start pulling posts and pledge to leave the board in a fit of pique because someone dared to give one of my posts a bad rating. I've been here a couple of years now and from time to time it happens, and sometimes it is fair enough. It was because for some reason somebody was systematically going through all my recent posts, giving them one or two stars - including one which was already rated as 5.

I have tried to ignore the star ratings. They've long been a bugbear of mine and I have moaned about them in the past. Actually, one and two star posts are few and if you go back through the recent pages of posts in the voyeur section you will find only a couple. I do not expect everyone to like all my posts and do not expect to get 5 stars every time, although of course I would like to (who wouldn't). What really riled me was that these ratings were quite clearly unreasonable, and it seemed to me as though someone was doing it on purpose.

I am not in the business of threatening to leave in order to get people to pat me on the back, or beg me to stay. I don't posess that sort of ego. Nevertheless I have decided to climb down and stay after all.

When time permits I will restore all the links which were removed and it will be business as usual.

I hope I didn't give the wrong impression in my comment on Nightshade. What I was saying is that his criticism was constructive, welcomed, and led to an improvement in my posts.

Thanks for having this discussion, guys. It always helps when people "get stuff off their chests." Plus, the understanding of all parties is enhanced.

Yea, the star rating system certainly isn't an exact science. I very rarely enter a rating and if I can't give a post five stars, I won't vote at all. But that's just me.

Maybe I'll have to change that philosophy and try making a more conscious effort to rate all posts I review.

but you know, sometimes the negative comments are funny too...like a parkinggirls thread! personally, i'd rather have any comment than NO comment...just check out a couple of my recent pic posts, and then how i come back later and whine about not getting enough comments...but then when i do that it gets put up front, viewed MORE, and then i DO get more comments! no seriously, please, check out my profile...then click on 'find all threads started by johnnyeye'....and good, bad, mean, sarcastic, perverse, or even holier-than-thou...just COMMENT!
