does anyone here shoot candids by yourselves or are you with someone else at the time? which do you prefer? I shoot candids by myself sometimes but find it easier to shoot while I'm with someone so I have someone to talk to and not just be in the middle of somewhere looking around.

I also wanted to bring this topic up at a later date but since you already posted it then I will answer. I started shooting candid by chance, I had a camera in my hand one day and I saw a lady with the shortest skirt and she came right by me and I started filming. It was that easy and I couldnt believe how easy it has become. Since I have been shooting alone but I would like to have a partner in crime so we can shoot them together. Like have one person talk to the subject like asking for directions while the other one shoots and vice versa. Also, I too like to talk to someone while seeing the beautys around. Thats my 2 cents worth. I hope everyone replys this is sorta like a great topic. I am in northeastern europe if you are ever around.

Depends on the venue. Depends on the partner.

Sure its a blast having a partner like neo and pez. But I gotta tell ya, when I'm in the mode I can't multi task a conversation with you and keep my radar running. I miss a lot of good shots during the chit chat. Then there's the need for monitoring the IFF channel. Not only are you searching for subjects youre constantly keeping tabs on your partner. Where did he go? Is he in the shot? Shoot with neo sometime and you can forget sticking with him. He'll drop you in the crowd the first time you put your camera to your face. But defo its great to have him there to compare notes and talk about who you shot. Oh and wait, cant forget to mention the 'stink eye' factor. Often times you'll happen upon a subject that just got through dealing with your partner. Heh heh.

If you ever pass thru Vegas, I recommend you look up pez. He's a cool shooter too, and knows all da kine spots. Day and nite. He's good at keepin an eye on you.

Sometimes I shoot with my girl on her shopping adventures. Often she gets in the shot cause she's not thinking about photography. When she is thinking about it, then you have to shoot what/who she wants you to shoot, if ya know what I mean.

Mostly I shoot alone and somewhat perfer it that way. Its like hunting and fishing. Sure its fun to hang out in the blind or in the boat with the fellaz talking crap, but when you gots to put game in your bag... Time to go maverick.

I shoot alone most of the time. Though I've recently been shooting with a partner at some of the sporting events. I think she's planning on posting soon.

Anyway, I live in a pretty isolated area and doubt I could find someone to shoot with even if I wanted.

that what i'm talking about, (with indoor pics) it makes me feel more comfortable. When it's an outside event, I can shoot all day by myself and do it all the time.

a little bit both. the pool shots, i did alone. mainly because i had to pretend i was working. but on some of my street shots, i have a buddy that i hang with sometimes. he is aware of wha i do and really dosn't care, sometimes he'll point some out, but he dosn't participate.
my motto has always been, stay below people radars. so i try not to bing attention to myself. whether standing in a group or pretending to work. my preference though is alone. because i can make a decision to go somewhere without consulting anybody

I do mine mostly alone, but occasionally my wife comes with me. She likes shooting candids of people too. (the "true" candids, not so much the voyeuristic shots) In a lot of cases you're actually better off if you have a female partner with you. I think people tend to suspect lone males with cameras just snapping pics or videos in public. And the geekier you look, the worse it is. With a female partner, I just feel like they're less likely to suspect you.

When I do beach vids, I go alone. Having someone else right next to me doesn't work well with my filming technique. They tend to get in the way of shots.

Having said all that, it's a major pain in the butt to be along with someone who either objects to what you do, or that you don't want them to know what you're doing.

I am usually alone just due to circumstances. But the times that I was with others I really enjoyed it. I felt so much more comfortable walking around with a camera in my hand when I was with actual tourists. I had to do less to act the part as I really was being a tour guide. And I let them in on the candid shots. I didn't tell them about posting the shots online but showed them as I took some pics and then they wanted to try to. It was actually pretty fun.

I feel nervous walking around by myself with a camera. If I saw someone doing it I'd think they were a perv. Probably not everyone else is of the same mind but I still get nervous

I always shoot alone! Goodlady doesnt know my extra ciricular activities. Aswell as havin 4 months a year where the sun shines, kinda limits my shooting. Would love to try out shooting with a female friend to see if it makes it any easier.
