She was probably tired from traipsing around Europe's largest museum on a hot summer's day.

For those of you who want to take sitting and lying uppies I can't overemphasize the need to use flash. Look at the geometry of the sun, her dress and her legs. The only reason we can see her panties like this is because I used a flash. Otherwise, they may have shown but would have been in shadow. And if the details do not exist on the file due to underexposure/lack of light on the subject, there's nothing in the world that can be done in Photoshop to fix it.

What kind of flash did you use? Would the stock, built-in flash of a Rebel XT throw far enough to illuminate under the skirt like that, even with harsh shadows?

There was an upskirt website in which the technique was using flash. I don't remember the name, it was run by a couple of guys that shot this type of upskirts. Damn, I wish I could remember, but mary jane effects the memory. By the way, great upskirts pics. The chick needs a razor for those legs. Hope you have more to post.

I used a 550EX, Canon's most powerful at the time accessory flash. Even one that large needs to fire very hard to make a difference in bright sunlight so a little bitty onboard flash like that on a Rebel would do nothing in this situation. An onboard may, however, help a little in the daytime at short distances and up dark skirts. I've never used a camera with an onboard flash so I don't have any experience.

What's most important if you want to try something like this is to RTFM for your camera and learn to do the following:

1) Turn the camera off automatic and learn to use shutter priority. The rule of thumb is that shutter speed = focal length up to the camera's flash sync speed. Anything faster than that is a crapshoot on exposure so you better have steady hands or image stabilization.

2) Use spot metering. Think about what's important to be properly exposed (in camera terms). After all, you don't really care of someone's knees are overexposed if you can then see what's up her skirt.

3) Learn how to use exposure and flash compensation. Even with spot metering, you may need to force the camera into more or less exposure than its defaults.

4) Practice with exposure settings so you can get a feel whether a given situation will need more or less exposure than the camera's default.

5) Figure out how and where your camera focuses. You will normally have a very small area where you want accurate focus. Figure out where your camera focuses as you look through the viewfinder, in the exact center of the center point, a corner, top, side, etc.

The guys on jaypicz were the pioneers in using flash. To my knowledge, the technique was first done by Spud and then picked up by Andy, the King of the Sitting Uppie. I learned from Andy. The site is still around and posting new stuff.

amos ....great shots ....but unless you had a huge flash ( large k and large range ) you would have got no better a shot by using an in-cam metering system and spot metering !!!!! one thing i have learned from being on this site is not to try and teach others to suck eggs just because you get it right once.....they seem to do it repeatedly....... but as i said ....great shots !!!!!

oh and by the way....flash in bright sinlight is probably useless but if it makes you feel better .....go ahead .... but it is anathema to good candid shots.....at least if you want to do this long term!!!!!

In your arrogant expertness, or is that expert arrogance, as a sitting upskirt critic you seem to have missed jaypicz.com. You may want to take a peek and notice that we've kinda figured out the flash technique and have been doing it for thousands of frames over many years. The technique may be beyond you but it's not beyond others.

And by the way, professional bodies don't have on board flashes so I don't have that choice and they're not powerful enough in any case.
